About GluFind

Why we built this
If you have celiac disease or a serious gluten sensitivity, you already know the problem. You search for a restaurant, find one that looks promising, and then spend ten minutes scanning reviews to figure out if it is actually safe. Half the time the reviews are contradictory. One person says the kitchen is dedicated, the next says they got sick. You end up calling the restaurant, asking the same questions you always ask, and hoping for the best.
We thought there should be a better way. A directory that tells you not just whether a place has gluten-free options, but where that information came from. So you can judge for yourself whether to trust it.
What makes us different
Most gluten-free apps rely on user reviews. Those are helpful, but they are also subjective and can be outdated. GluFind takes a different approach. Every listing cites its sources. If we say a restaurant is dedicated gluten-free, we link to the page on their website where they say it. If we say they have a GF menu, we link to the PDF. You can verify everything yourself in one click.
We also pull from the Gluten-Free Food Service certification database, chain allergen documents, and publicly available review data. But we never republish reviews. We extract signals like "diners mention GF pizza" or "dedicated fryer" and link back to the original source.
How our confidence levels work
- Dedicated means the venue advertises a 100% gluten-free kitchen or facility. This is the highest confidence level, but you should still verify because things change.
- Certified means the venue holds a recognized certification like GFFS, GFCO, or CRC. We link to the certification source so you can confirm it is current.
- Menu means the venue has a published gluten-free menu or allergen document. It does not mean the kitchen is dedicated, so cross-contamination is still a risk.
- Options means diners report gluten-free items are available, but the venue is not dedicated or certified. Cross-contamination risk is likely.
What we do not do
- We do not republish review text, reviewer names, or photos from third-party platforms.
- We do not publish a venue based on a single scraper signal. Every published listing has at least one independent citation.
- We do not claim to list every gluten-free restaurant in a city. Our coverage depends on what public data is available, and we only publish a city when it meets our quality bar.
- We do not sell advertising or featured placements. A restaurant cannot pay to be listed higher.
Who is behind this
GluFind is a small team based in the US. We are not a medical organization, and we do not give medical advice. We are people who care about gluten-free dining and got tired of doing the same research over and over. If you want to reach us, email hello@glufind.com or use our contact page.
What is next
We are starting with a handful of US cities and expanding from there. After launch, we plan to add user-submitted reviews and edits, community contributions, and product listings. If a city you care about is not covered yet, let us know and we will prioritize it.
